Everyone needs Microsoft 365 Copilot or above. Copilot Basic does not use sources.
The free “Copilot Basic” tier will show Rhizome as a source but silently never invoke it — if answers never cite Rhizome, check the license first.

IT registers an auth client and creates the connector
Rhizome can send instructions on how. In short: register the OAuth client in the Teams Developer Portal, then in the Microsoft 365 admin center go to Copilot → Connectors → Connect to MCP server, paste the MCP URL above with OAuth 2.0, and Authorize and enable.

Each user adds Rhizome as a source in Copilot
In Copilot chat: settings → Sources → find Rhizome under Browse sources and Connect.

Ask a question, and tell Copilot to use Rhizome
Adding “use Rhizome” to the question makes sure Copilot routes it to the connector instead of answering on its own. Works in Copilot Chat, Copilot in Excel, and the Researcher agent. Confirm the answer cites real pages.

Gotchas
- Every querying user needs a paid Microsoft 365 Copilot license (or E7) — the free “Copilot Basic” tier shows the source but never actually invokes it
- The admin-center steps need a Global Administrator or AI Administrator role — this is a tenant-level setup, not per-user
- Connector changes can take ~15 minutes to propagate; don’t debug before then
- Only Copilot Chat, Copilot in Excel, and the Researcher agent can call connectors today — other Copilot surfaces won’t
- If answers come back without citations, you’re probably not actually hitting Rhizome
