Outside experts bring experience, accountability, and someone to stand behind the strategy in the room. Rhizome is a focused, AI regulatory coworker that does the exhaustive primary-source research those decisions should sit on. On a >$100m program you usually want both. This is not a humans-vs-AI choice.
What hours can't scale to. A good consultant's value is judgment: novel pathways, agency relationships, knowing which battles to pick. What hours don't scale to is the research grind underneath: reading the last 20–50 similar products, pulling CRL themes, comparing how three authorities worded the same requirement. A human bench can't cheaply read hundreds of documents overnight. So one of two things happens: it's billable hours, or it quietly doesn't get done, and the strategy rests on a sample.
Rhizome is built for exactly that grind. Our agents read hundreds to thousands of primary sources per hard question, across >75 health authority databases in >12 markets (as of August 2026), and cite every claim to the exact passage. You — or your consultant — still make the call. But the call sits on the full record instead of the part someone had hours for.
What software can't do. Let's be equally honest the other way. Rhizome does not co-sign your IND. It does not replace twenty years of scar tissue, read the politics of your review division, or sit across from the agency with its reputation on the line. When the hard part is judgment, alignment, or accountability, hire the human. The research pack they walk in with is where we come in.
The budget paradox. In many organizations a five-figure consulting invoice sails through approval while a three-figure software line item gets scrutinized: consulting is a familiar motion, software is a new one. We'd gently point out what that money buys in each case: hours are the most expensive way to do document recall, and the cheapest way to buy judgment. Spend accordingly.
Consultants are our power users. Many of the heaviest Rhizome users are consultants and small advisory shops, using it as bench strength to compete with firms ten times their size. It's the best possible evidence for how complementary we are to their skillsets.
